“Snow Squall”
20" x 16.5"
(2010). Original design.
Cotton fabric, cotton threads, acrylic textile paint, interfacing, cotton batting. Thread sketched, free-motion machine quilted.

This is a study in creating movement with thread sketching. The wind swirls were stitched and lightly painted with metallic paint so they shimmer. The snowflakes are almost entirely thread, with a few touches of paint.

I created this piece as a sample for an article I wrote for the December 2010/January 2011 issue of Quilting Arts magazine called “Thread Sketching 101, Lesson 6: Focus on Movement.”
