This detail shot (left) shows how I used many small fabric strips fused in place to form the balls of yarn. I thread-painted each small strip of fabric to give it the texture of a strand of yarn.

“Varigated”
12" x 12" (2008).
Original design.
Cotton fabric, fusible web, cotton batting, nonfusible interfacing. Cotton threads, fabric dye, water soluable wax pastels.

This piece was auctioned in November 2008 through the Studio Art Quilt Associates “One-Foot Square Auction.” For more information on this event, click here.

Fabric pieces were cut, fused to the background and thread painted. Fabric dye and water soluable wax pastels were used to add highlights and shadow to make the balls of yarn look more three-dimensional.
